COACHING GUIDES
Welcome To
Your Coaching Guide
This guide is meant for the times when you already know the response you want to give, but end up behaving differently. It can help you examine what that reaction might be shielding, and the version of yourself you may have learned to be in order to feel safe or accepted.
Start with one small, manageable example. Move at your own pace, and stop briefly if the exercise starts to feel too much.
TAKE YOUR TIME
Slow and steady
There is no need to figure out, for every circumstance, why you respond in that manner.
Start with a single instance in which you understood how you wanted to react, yet ended up doing something different. Maybe you pushed yourself to win approval, asked for reassurance, got defensive, or fell silent. Hold that moment in mind as you work through the guide.
Pay attention to what occurred immediately before your response and what seemed at risk. After that, consider what your reaction might have allowed you to avoid or obtain in that instant. There may be a cause for why this coping style became so familiar, but you do not have to pinpoint exactly when it started.
The purpose is to understand one reaction well enough to recognise where you have a choice. Some responses may arrive quickly; others may require more time. Stop whenever needed, and come back to the guide when you are ready.
I remember hearing and amazing quote once
“The mind is like a parachute… it won’t work unless its open”
Paul Ryder
